New Oriental: A Unique Blend of Eastern and Western Aesthetics

Blending Tradition and Modernity

Chang Chao, the Chinese poet of the late 1600s, once wrote in his literary work Dream Shadows, "Beauties to be accompanied when enjoying the flowers, Scholars to be accompanied when drinking under moonlight, and hermits to be accompanied when strolling in the snow." This sentiment of companionship and harmony with nature serves as the inspiration for the New Oriental design by Wang Yu Cheng.

Located in Hsinchu city, the New Oriental is a residential house that seamlessly combines the elegance of Western aesthetics with the rich traditions of the East. Wang Yu Cheng, the creative director behind the project, sought to create a space that not only reflects the balance between human interaction and nature but also offers a unique and immersive living experience.

One of the standout features of the New Oriental design is the meticulous use of materials, light, and proportions to construct a generous and inviting atmosphere. Natural stone, solid woods, and eco-friendly materials were carefully chosen to create a sense of relaxation and stability both in the interior and exterior spaces. These materials not only provide a stable environment for calming the mind but also serve as a canvas for expressing the passage of time.

Through the skillful manipulation of material proportions and textures, Wang Yu Cheng has created a space that exudes a proper aesthetic while embodying the essence of generosity. The horizontal and vertical interfaces within the design express the shape and meaning of generosity, giving the space a sense of depth and harmony.

The New Oriental design spans approximately 200 square meters and features a primary roof compartment that presented a challenge due to its narrow space and poor lighting. However, Wang Yu Cheng's innovative approach involved redefining and reallocating spatial scales to create appropriate plans. The result is a space that not only maximizes natural light but also offers a profound sense of depth and tranquility.

With its simple and pure design, the New Oriental allows residents to connect with the essence of life and experience environmental symbiosis. The careful arrangement of walls and the use of partial cutouts create a sense of elegance and extension, enhancing the overall level of sophistication in the design.

Recognized for its exceptional design, the New Oriental has been awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award is a testament to the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

The New Oriental design by Wang Yu Cheng is a testament to the seamless integration of Eastern and Western aesthetics. By combining traditional elements with modern design principles, this residential house offers a unique and immersive living experience that celebrates the beauty of both cultures.
